folc.ca's comment on HAZCO's answer to FAQ #29
Note: The background text in the following was copied from the Frequently-asked Questions page at HAZCO's website, Nov. 2, 2005. HAZCO's answers to "frequently asked questions" deserve further comments. Those comments are inserted where required in HAZCO's text and are shown on yellow background. From HAZCO's FAQ web page (quoted verbatim): FAQ #29. Why, according to the petition, haven’t you developed an emergency response plan for the project?
The safety of the public and workers and environmental protection is a top priority at Hazco. The Emergency Response Plan for the plant is currently under development. Upon completion of a “draft” plan, copies will be forwarded to Town of Bruderheim, Town of Lamont, Lamont County, Northeast Region Community Awareness and Emergency Response Group, local industry representatives and Local Emergency Response officials for comment. Upon receipt of the comments, a final Emergency Response Plan will be developed and filed with all stakeholders mentioned above prior to commencement of operations.

Comment:
It appears that HAZCO gave little or no thought to an emergency response plan until the questions about the lack of an emergency response plan surfaced. The proof is in the pudding. HAZCO has no emergency response plan. Given that HAZCO has plans to put their facility into operation in November of 2006, the absence of a tangible and workable emergency response plan this late in the game is extremely troubling to the residents of Lamont County. This late in the game it is barely, if at all, possible to have a workable emergency response plan accepted by all parties involved and in place at the scheduled start-up date for the HAZCO sulphur plant.
