folc.ca's comment on HAZCO's answer to FAQ #35
Note: The background text in the following was copied from the Frequently-asked Questions page at HAZCO's website, Nov. 2, 2005. HAZCO's answers to "frequently asked questions" deserve further comments. Those comments are inserted where required in HAZCO's text and are shown on yellow background. From HAZCO's FAQ web page (quoted verbatim): FAQ #35. Why not build this facility at a more remote location, not so close to farms and communities?
Hazco was attracted to the area due to the availability of industrial land. Since the land was zoned industrial, Hazco believed the site was a great fit due to the site characteristics, proximity to rail, highways and sulphur production sources.

Comment:
That answer by HAZCO doesn't answer the question. HAZCO should have come right out and stated, "We want it because we want it."We know that HAZCO likes the location, and why it does so. After all, HAZCO would quite literally get the use of the best industrial land in the County for a song and a dance. The question was why the HAZCO site cannot be constructed somewhere else.
What HAZCO likes or does not like is not the proper criterion for having HAZCO locate its intended sulphur storage site here. The deciding factor is whether HAZCO's site is good for the County of Lamont and its residents. It isn't. Therefore, what's keeping our County Council from putting its foot down?
Do the members of our County Council want to be re-elected? That is the question!
Other than that, HAZCO seems to think that the location of its choice — it truly is a choice location — belongs to HAZCO for the use intended, but that is not the case. The land is zoned: Industrial — Discretionary Use.
Now, we want our County Council to use the proper discretion and have them deal with a bad situation they permitted or perhaps asked to come about.
We want our Council to quit its fence-sitting. |
